Design Creations is owned and operated by John Spiers.

JOHN SPIERS

I have had over 20 years experience in teaching Design and Technology in Western Australian high schools.  In this time I have taught all levels within all of the disciplines of the subject area.  Teaching has taught me to recognise the most suitable practises to enable people of all levels to achieve outstanding results.  My safety record is perfect with not one serious injury to a student under my supervision.  Teaching high school students has taught me to recognise potential pit falls and hazards and thus diminish the probability of these occurring.

Demand for my skills and ability to impart these lead to the foundation of my business Design Creations in 1999.  The business has continued to grow in a way that reflects my commitment to quality and the development of the human spirit.

I love making things and I’m capable of working in all materials.  The design approach that I utilise is an approach that can create limitless solutions to design problems.  The fundamental principals that drive my designs are:

Function. A solution must achieve the use it was intended for safely and efficiently.

Form. Objects created must have a form that is primarily driven by the function but remain pleasing to the eye.
Minimalism. Only the materials necessary to fulfil the intended function are used. Efficient and sensible use of materials aids in conservation and helps protect the environment.

Quality. Products must be built using the most appropriate techniques and materials. This enables products to give generations of service.

I rely on quality materials and trained use of the elements and principles of design to create aesthetically pleasing, timeless pieces of furniture

I enjoy a lifestyle that revolves around utilising the natural environment for health and wellbeing.  Fun and happiness are created through activity and doing.  Woodworking Holidays enable others to share in these experiences.
